With scorching temperatures already bearing down on South Australia; American Midget fireball Davey Ray, will no doubt set Murray Bridge Speedway alight when he hits town for round two of the Triple X Speedcar Super Series THIS SATURDAY NIGHT!
Heading to Murray Bridge after successfully claiming the $12,000 bounty at the Figs event in Western Australia last weekend; Ray will now step into the immaculate Brad Dent Rondalee USA11 Aggressor/Hawk, ready to take on locals and interstaters alike!
“We’ve already won the title a couple of times and we won the biggest paying race in Australia last weekend” said Ray from his temporary Sydney base. “So now we’re going to come down, pick at them a little bit more and maybe try to take out some of the SSS rounds”.
“We really didn’t have that good a time at Murray Bridge last year in the Australian title with mechanical problems” continued the third generation driver. “So I’m happy to be making a return to South Australia as maybe we’ll have a good run this time round against all the Aussies in Brad Dent’s new car”.
Whilst a request for a pumping, controversial quote got this author nowhere with the ever smooth Davey Ray; make no mistakes about it race fans! This young gun is without a doubt one of America’s best Midget racers; a stand-on-it gas man who would never settle for second best!
But will the ex-Australian Champ from Davenport Iowa be able to ‘bring it’ against our increasingly talented home-grown heroes?
Leading the Aussie defence against this US invasion is SSS round one victor Nathan Smee of NSW, who incidentally claimed second place to Ray last weekend in WA. Three-time SSS Champion Mark Brown will also be on the pedal, no doubt looking to reclaim his ‘NASR NSW SSS Championship Ladder’ lead; the first time in over two seasons the Browndog hasn’t been at the top of the pointscore! West Australia’s SSS rookie but long time hard-charger Scotty Glazebrook is next in line, having claimed third place at both the October series opener in Brisbane and the Figs Memorial last weekend; Glazebrook will be another super-tough competitor to beat! But does this suggest the SSS field is limited to four top class Speedcar warriors…?
Hell no! This weekend actually sees the return of the largest number of interstaters since the January 2009 Australian Speedcar Title, including last weekend’s Sydney feature winner Troy Jenkins and podium placing brother Darren Jenkins; West Aussies Dene McAllan and Keith Giles; Queenslanders Grant Draney, Brock Hallett, Mick Harders, Adam Wallis and Sid Whittaker; plus Victorians Travis Mills and Peter Ghent! Likewise how could anyone overlook the local lead-foot’s John ‘Angry Man’ McKay, Ben Dillon, Tim Crouch, Ben Hall, Alex Fletcher and Norm Moore from South Australia!!
Murray Bridge’s SSS Round Two is Australia's chance to 'Spank the Yankee Tank' and definitely not a meeting to miss!
Keep up-to-date with our Modern Day Gladiators!
